About this place
Waiting for coffee to be poured through a flannel cloth filter while seated at a counter with crimson velvet chairs and wooden window frames feels like a ritual apart from the city. Tucked into a side street in Ekoda, Gustav Kaffee brews each cup by nel drip, offering a signature viscous mouthfeel and elegant aromas that unfold gently from classic porcelain.
House blends include the Roa Blend, a medium roast marked by gentle sweetness and clean acidity, and the Care Blend, a medium-dark roast balancing toasted richness with bittersweet harmony. Single-origin beans from Ethiopia and Sumatra Mandheling are also on offer, with a discounted refill blend available for those settling in for a second cup.
For a chilled alternative, the Cafe au Lait Glace presents striking layers of rich iced coffee and milk, forming amber and milky-white bands in the glass. Tasting each stratum before allowing the drink to blend naturally makes for an indulgent pause in the day.
Snacks and sweets are curated to suit the darker roasts, including a dense, rich gateau chocolat and toast made with bread from vieill, a bakery on Senkawa-dori. With classical music playing softly in the background, it is a room well suited to an unhurried afternoon of reading or quiet reflection.
The cafe is closed on Wednesdays, and payments are accepted in cash only.
